CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

If you are taken ill overseas with Coronavirus the medical expenses section of your insurance policy will re-act in the same way as any other illness. You will need to contact local medical authorities for advice, but also contact the 24 hour Medical Assistance service as soon as possible. In the unlikely event you are hospitalised due to the condition normally your insurance policy will cover the costs in accordance with the policy wording. Again if your illness means you miss your scheduled return transports, your insurance is likely to cover reasonable additional costs to return home.

What is not covered by travel insurance policies:
• Cancellation, Curtailment, Medical costs or other claims due to circumstances already known when you purchase the insurance
• travel where the FCO have advised against all but essential travel. FCO Website
• Deciding not to travel

If the FCO have advised against travel you must contact your travel agent, travel provider or airline (EU Regulation EC 261/2004 covers most regulations for air travel) regarding the best option in altering your trip. Some travel providers may provide penalty free options to amend travel arrangements and we recommend you contact them for further details.
